Every second 58 photographs are uploaded and one new users is gained. Needless to say that Instagram is a great place to start if you are a photographer or an artist. However, it is always hard to find a lot of followers in the start and after adding your friends, family and other people you know you will find that you are getting less followers. 1. Connect your Facebook Account

In 2012 Facebook bought Instagram for $1 billion dollars which means that you can now easily integrate your photographs of Instagram with Facebook. It is a missed opportunity if you don’t connect your Facebook account to your Instagram but some people don’t even know that it’s possible or what it’s good for, so that’s why I’m sharing it. If you connect both accounts, your Instagram activity gets streamed to Facebook and you will share your uploads with all of your Facebook friends. Another cool option that Instagram offers is that you can auto-follow all of your Facebook friends in just a few seconds.

2. Follow others

If you never follow other people or like their photos, people might think you are self-absorbed and are reluctant to follow you, or they will not know that you are active on Instagram. Also, if you follow other people and comment and like on their work, people are likely to notice you and check out your page. If all you do on Instagram is upload your own photos and sending out messages about your work you are likely to be ignored. It is better to go where the people are. Also, if someone likes your photo you should check them out and follow them if you like their work so that their friends may start following you.

3. Hashtags

Hashtags are very important nowadays and can make all the difference in the world. Especially on Instagram hashtags are important because people use keywords to find photos of their interest. Don’t use more than 3 hashtags so that you don’t come off as a newbie or a spammer. There is a list of most popular hashtags on Instagram:

#tbt (throwback Thursday)

4. Get personal

Photos that are personalized and unique are the most popular ones. People like photos that they recognize and that they can connect with. Put emotion in your photos, and if something is depressing or makes for a unique circumstance, be sure to leave it in there. This may not sound like good advice but seeing that the most popular Instagram photos are the ones that show nature, weather circumstances and human emotions we can conclude that it really works that simple: people like what they can relate to.

5. Timing

If you are a night owl and you do most of your things at night, you probably also feel the most inspiration at night and maybe you will want to upload a beautiful picture at four o’clock in the morning. However, as most of the people on Instagram are still asleep your photo will not be seen by many and will get lost in the masses. Even if it is a very beautiful photo, it will go unnoticed. Your best chances are in the morning (before people go to work or school) and in the afternoon, when people are getting home from their jobs. These are Instagram’s busiest hours.

So hopefully you will get more followers with these 5 tips. It is hard for everyone to become popular in the start and a lot of it also depends on luck and chance. However, you can do a lot of things to gain more followers and these 5 ways are a good start.
